BS-DBS/12V(24V)EM dual battery system

After several years, the dual battery system IBS-DBS is now being replaced by the successor models IBS-DBS/12V-EM and IBS-DBS/24V-EM. The system is equipped with the new dual power supply technology (one battery can be replaced and the system continues to run from the second battery. Furthermore, an overcharge alarm is triggered if the charge is above 15V for a longer period of time. The new systems are also equipped with trailer battery recognition; if the additional battery/trailer battery is disconnected, the battery system switches to single battery (starter battery system). The new system complies with vehicle approval in accordance with ECE 10R E24 and can be supplied directly as original equipment in addition to the accessories range. These products are manufactured to ISO standard 9001 and with ICP4 print plates (military and aerospace) for the highest quality standards.

A battery monitor, new with E24 automotive approval, is mounted in the vehicle and provides information on the battery status of both batteries and the charge of the alternator or a mounted solar system. The installation kit with 4.5 m cable enables easy installation. Many functions are available, such as the 30 and 120 min link, deep discharge and link fault alarm, LED dimming, link deactivation and trailer battery detection.

Important market information:
In some markets, vehicles with intelligent alternators are supplied with new functions. On some brands, this function can be deactivated in the control unit. Another option is to reduce the voltage at the alternator by installing a mini ATO diode instead of the alternator fuse. This achieves a voltage reduction of + 0.6 V. (Possible vehicles are: Landcruiser J7, J15, J20, Hilux). This information originates from the Australian market.

The new IBS-DBS software version 8 (replaces version 6.3 and 6.4) with new functions is now available and is described below.

yellow: Batteries must be checked!
red: Batteries must be charged!

11.0V = flashing and beep indicates deep battery discharge. This function is indicated by pressing the display button for approx. 30 seconds.

LED dimming function
For night-time driving, the brightness of the LED can be selected between light and dark by pressing and holding the display button.

Automatic battery connection (bidirectional)
While the engine is running, the Main and Aux batteries are charged together in parallel by the alternator (green "linked" LED is switched on). When the engine stops, the two batteries are automatically disconnected with a delay. Devices such as refrigerators, lamps, compressors and inverters are now powered by the auxiliary battery AUX. When the auxiliary battery is charged by solar, charger or generator, the starter battery is also automatically charged if the charging power is sufficient (green "link" LED lights up).

Manual battery connection "link"
In an emergency (if the main battery is defective or empty) or in the event of higher power consumption, the two batteries (Main & Aux) can be connected by activating the link button (red LED manually connected lights up). After a period of 30 minutes (or immediately after activating the "auto" button), the system switches back to automatic mode. When using electric winches, the battery connection can be activated for 180 minutes by pressing the left button twice. In this operating mode, a beep sounds every 30 seconds as a reminder (autoreturn after the time has elapsed). The load sharing function with the manual battery connection reduces the load on the alternator, the wiring and the batteries when using the recovery winch.

Alarm functions
Deep discharge alarm: If the battery voltage of one or both batteries is below 12V for an extended period of time, the deep discharge alarm sounds with a beep and the "Low Battery" LED of the corresponding battery (Main /or Aux) flashes. The beeper can be switched off using the display button. The flashing "Low Battery" LED goes out when the battery voltage exceeds 12V again.
Link fault alarm: The monitor monitors the charge on both batteries. If no charge is detected on the other battery when a charge is applied (alternator, solar, charger), the link fault alarm is displayed with a flashing green "linked" LED and the beeper sounds. If this error occurs, the wiring of the power cables (relay, battery terminals, crimp contacts, relay control) should be checked immediately.

Deactivating the automatic and manual dual battery link function
If there is a problem with the auxiliary battery (Aux), such as cell short circuit, short circuit or defective battery housing, the alternator operates in a short circuit, which can lead to damage to the alternator (alternator). In an emergency, the battery system can now be operated in the basic vehicle configuration (alternator, starter battery without charging the auxiliary battery). The link function is deactivated by pressing the link button for 6 seconds (until the beep sounds). Manual and automatic linking cannot be carried out in this operating state. This function can be reset by pressing the Auto button for 6 seconds after the battery problem with the additional battery has been rectified. The system is now active again with all functions.

The new software 8 with the following new functions is now available:
- Trailer battery detection disables the automatic and manual link functions if the on-board battery (auxiliary battery) has been removed. This means that the battery monitor does not give an alarm when the on-board battery is removed, for example from batteries in pickups on the loading bridge or drop-off cabins.
- Overcharge alarm if the alternator charges above 15V for 15 minutes. This function is required in markets (mostly hot regions) where heat-compensated alternators are used. If the charge correction parts are used incorrectly, this can lead to undesirable overcharging and thus damage to the batteries. For some markets, the IBS kits are supplied with compensation components in Mini ATO format.
