BENEFITS

Britpart's Peak Performance Air Filters are specially designed by K&N for Land Rover vehicles. Designed to maximise airflow while maintaining optimum filter quality, they can provide the engine with more air than conventional air filters. This can result in better performance and lower petrol or diesel consumption.

The Peak Performance continuous air filters can be cleaned when dirty. This is an advantage not to be underestimated if you travel a lot in dusty terrain, e.g. for off-road use, commercial, hunting or forestry operations. With normal road use, cleaning is usually only necessary after several years.

A dirty air filter causes poorer combustion and higher soot emissions with diesel due to a lack of air. A diesel particulate filter must then be regenerated more often. Especially with Discovery and Range Rover Sport a constant annoyance, which many owners know.
TECHNICAL DETAILS AND FUNCTIONS

At first glance, the wide-meshed filter material that is responsible for the high air flow rate is noticeable. The filter material consists of four layers of oiled cotton fabric (as used for surgical dressings) and is embedded between two layers of plastic-coated aluminium mesh. The oil retained in the fabric does not affect the mesh or the air flow. But why do we ask ourselves, don't the dust particles simply march unhindered through the relatively large holes in the tissue? The secret of this unique filter system can be explained in this way: Dust and sand particles are carried with the air flow to the filter fabric. Before these particles (negatively charged) can pass through the filter, they are pulled out of the air as if by a magnet and settle on the oiled cotton fabric (positively charged). The clean air on the other hand flows undisturbed through the filter. The cleaning process continues and more and more foreign particles are deposited on the fabric, leaving the holes in the fabric open. The layer of dirt that builds up on the fabric now becomes a secondary filter that also binds foreign particles. Cleaned air still flows through the open passages. This extremely effective secondary filtration is the secret and the reason for the long service life of these filters. In many cases, it is up to 10 times longer than that achieved by conventional filters. Running distances of over 250,000 km without maintenance are not uncommon. Only when a protective layer of 2-3 millimetres thick has formed is the filter ready for cleaning and re-oiling. (Non-oiled fabric is not charged).
MAINTENANCE

During normal road operation, the filter requires maintenance every 80,000 to 160,000 km. More frequent maintenance is necessary for off-road operation and driving and in special dusty conditions. At the latest when 3 mm of dirt has settled on the filter.

Extremely fine dust can remove the filter oil. More frequent oiling of the clean side of the filter is necessary if complete maintenance cannot be carried out.
Maintenance instructions

Gently tap the filter element to remove the coarse protection. If necessary, the remaining dirt can then be carefully brushed off with a brush.
Spray the K&N Cleaner evenly onto the filter element and leave it to work for 10 minutes.
Move the filter back and forth in a bowl with K&N Cleaner. The dirty solution must not run into the filter. Wait 5 minutes.
Do not use petrol, pressure washers, steam pressure, strong detergents or biting solvents for cleaning.
Rinse the filter with water. Do not use a pressure washer. Always rinse from the clean side to the dirty side. No dirt must be washed into the filter.
Always allow the filter to dry naturally. Do not use compressed air, open flames or heat dryers. Intense heat can shrink the cotton fabric, compressed air can close small holes in the filter material.
After rinsing the filter, it must be oiled again.
Spray-on oiling: Spray K&N filter oil onto each layer of the filter. Wait 10 minutes and then re-oil any grey areas that are still present.
Lubricating with a pump can: Press the filter oil down onto the fabric. Only apply one strip of oil per pleat. Allow the oil to soak in for approx. 20 minutes and then re-oil any remaining grey areas.
Never use K&N filters without oil. Only use K&N filter oil. The filter oil has a special composition of animal and mineral substances. These form a very good protection against dirt. A red colour additive is added to indicate unoiled spots on the filter. The red colour may fade, but the filter is still white.
